I hope my 2 pots of current babies I've been nursing for 2 seasons prove to be a success in time. Nikko Ming Tree (505) was produced from 1979 to 1995. I have grown some of these to quite a large size at different homes (though none quite as large as my Dad's). I have even housed these outdoors on a covered patio in spring/summer and had them thrive and put on leaves like you would not believe using this approach. No deviations from this regimen is what is important. My rule of thumb on these trees has always been to water once a week fertilize once a month and DON'T MOVE/DISTURB THEM at all. Back off on water by 1/2 what you usually give it for a couple weeks, and it will probably produce new leaves for you. I would leave your tree alone for now so it can adjust to the larger pot and the shock of the pot move. This apartment community was built in 1978 and has 2 stories with 76 units.

I doubt at that point it would have even fit into a U-Haul trailor! Broke my heart to give it up as it ha=d been in the family so many years, but I just couldn't get it to where I lived. LOL When he retired and sold his house to go to an Air Force retirement community in San Antonio, he sold that tree to someone local (for $300) as it was just too big for me to entertain the notion of moving it to where I lived. But new leaves would grow back quickly in every instance (on my trees as well), despite fretting and worrying about impending death. The leaves his would shed might be green might be brown/yellow. He finally came to the conclusion these trees just shed leaves at times like any tree does. He said it would go through leaf shedding fairly, despite obvious healthy root environment. He was good about tipping it out of the creamic pot he moved it to to inspect root condition whenever it got touchy and started shedding leaves. He moved it up to a 21" pot only when it got fairly big (about 5' tall) and then never repotted it again. He set that pot down into a more attractive ceramic pot. The Ming aralia (Polyscias fruticosa), with its ferny leaves and bonsai-like contorted stems, can lend an elegantly Asian touch to any decor. pot my brother gave it to him in for many years. My father had a 7' tree (he pruned it to stay 5' wide) in his dining room picture window and it only had two main roots he said.

It's my experience they will grow in smaller pots than most people would think a tree would need, as they really only have one main root and a few side roots grow off that main root. These trees don't like repotting or much handling.
